Detective Blathers: Did you shoot this boy or not?
Mr Giles: Perhaps I made a mistake.
Detective Duff: If it's not the same boy, why are we here?
Oliver: Can I work for you? Let me water your flowers or do something to make you happy.
Rose: You don't need to do anything. I'm lucky because I have an aunt who has enough money to help people like you.
Oliver: I am very happy to be here. Mr Brownlow and his friends would love to know that I am safe here.
Dr Losberne: What's the matter? You look white. Are you feeling ill?
The neighbour: Mr Brownlow has moved. He went to the West Indies six weeks ago.
A woman: Excuse me, Miss. Nurse Sally does not have much time.
Mrs Corney: What's that to me? I can't keep her alive, can I?
A woman: No, Miss, but she says she wants to tell you •something important.
Nurse Sally: I must tell you something. When I was younger, I was a nurse to a woman who died here.
Mrs Corney: Yes, you helped many people here.
Nurse Sally: The workhouse was the wrong place for her. She was rich enough for a good hospital. I stole from her before she died!
Mrs Corney: What did you steal?
Nurse Sally: This woman had a gold locket! She asked me to take the gold for the child, who was called Oliver. She asked me to ...
Mrs Corney: What did she ask you to do?
